MetaMask, a popular crypto wallet provider, recently informed its users of the ongoing fraudulent activities by a Namecheap hacker, instructing them to be careful.

Namecheap is a web hosting company that offers its clients various hosting services, including virtual private servers, shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting, and dedicated servers. In a recent development, NameCheap discovered the mismanagement of one of its third-party services, which resulted in unauthorized emails being sent to certain users of MetaMask.

According to the Namecheap web hosting company, a hacker compromised one of its third-party services and used it to send unauthorized emails to MetaMask investors with the intention of accessing their private information and claiming their crypto possessions. The email instructed investors to complete their KYC verification, claiming that failure to do so would result in the suspension of their accounts.

The email included a link that redirected investors to a fake MetaMask website that asked for their secret recovery phrase. MetaMask reminded its users that it does not perform KYC verification and does not contact users via email regarding account information. The wallet provider encouraged users to exercise caution and protect their assets, such as enabling two-factor authentication on their accounts.

Namecheap has announced that its services remain intact and that the hacker was not able to access any customer's account. The company acted quickly to stop the fraudulent mailing and is still investigating the issue. Namecheap advised its users to recheck their email addresses and points of contact when handling matters with Namecheap and MetaMask, as well as website links.

This event is a reminder of the importance of being vigilant and cautious when using cryptocurrency and decentralized applications. The crypto industry has recorded several occurrences of digital currencies and NFTs being stolen using phishing scams and other fraudulent activities.
